DIY repair or call a plumber?

Some jobs you can easily handle yourself; others cost you more without a professional. The honest dividing line.

Frequently asked questions

What does a plumber cost?

A plumber charges on average € 65 to € 95 per hour, plus € 25 to € 45 call-out costs. A standard job such as a leaking tap or blocked drain comes to € 90-225 in total. Many plumbers also work with fixed job prices: ask upfront which of the two applies.

What does an emergency plumber cost outside office hours?

In the evening, at night and during weekends an emergency surcharge of 150-200% of the normal hourly rate applies. Expect € 150-450 in total for an evening emergency job. On the phone, always ask for the hourly rate, call-out costs and surcharge before the professional sets off.

How fast will a plumber be at my door?

For genuine emergencies (serious leak, burst pipe) affiliated plumbers are often on site within 2 to 4 hours. For regular jobs you usually receive a response with a price indication within 24 hours.

What should I do when I have a leak?

First close the main water valve (usually at the water meter) and switch off electricity near the water at the fuse box. Catch the leaking water, take photos for your insurer, then submit a request or call right away. The faster the leak stops, the smaller the consequential damage.

Is a request really free and without obligation?

Yes. Submitting a request costs nothing and commits you to nothing. You receive up to 3 responses and choose yourself: or no one, that's fine too. Prices and payment are arranged directly with the plumber.

Are the plumbers vetted?

Yes. We verify Chamber of Commerce registration and business liability insurance before a company receives requests. For gas work, legal CO certification is additionally required. Companies with recurring complaints are removed from the platform.

Who pays the plumber: tenant or landlord?

Minor day-to-day maintenance (unblocking a trap, tap washer, adjusting a cistern) is the tenant's responsibility under Dutch law. Defects in pipes, sewers, the heating installation or the property itself are the landlord's. Always report the defect to your landlord in writing first.

Does my insurance cover water damage?

Buildings or contents insurance usually covers the consequential damage of a sudden leak (wet walls, damaged floor), but not the repair of the pipe itself. Leak detection is often reimbursed by buildings insurers. Always take photos and keep the plumber's invoice.

What happens to my data?

Your details are shared only with the (up to 3) plumbers matched to your request. We never resell your data and automatically delete requests after the legal retention period. See our privacy policy.

Do you also work for HOAs and businesses?

Yes. For HOAs, property managers and commercial buildings there are maintenance contracts with a fixed hourly rate (€ 55-85), priority for emergencies and a single invoice. Choose 'Commercial property or HOA' in the request.
